“Global warming, along with the cutting and burning of forests and other critical habitats, is causing the loss of living species at a level comparable to the extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. That event was believed to have been caused by a giant asteroid. This time it is not an asteroid colliding with the Earth and wreaking havoc: it is us.”

― Al Gore, An Inconvenient Truth

At Shakti, we are deeply concerned about the fragile ecosystem that we live in today. As part of our commitment to become a greener and a proactive leader in the development and production of renewable energy, we have launched our flagship Wind Energy project in Rajasthan and Karnataka, which will generate 3 million units of power to these power stricken states.

The Indian wind energy sector has an installed capacity of 14158 MW (as on March 31, 2011). In terms of wind power installed capacity, India is ranked 5th in the world. Today India is a major player in the global wind energy market and at Shakti; we are propelling the growth by participating in this green opportunity, as we believe that the potential is far from exhausted.

The Indian Wind Energy Association has estimated that with the current level of technology, the ‘on-shore’ potential for utilization of wind energy for electricity generation is of the order of 65,000 MW. The unexploited resource availability has the potential to sustain the growth of wind energy sector in India in the years to come.

Commissioned in the March of 2004, Shakti has an installed capacity of 600KW through an Enercon Wind Mill installed in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. As a monthly supplier of power to the Rajasthan State Electricity Board, we are creating the platform to become a bigger player in this arena in the years to come.

The Indian Wind Energy Association’s mission echoes our aspiration with green technology:

  • To utilize the wind energy resources in the country in an optimal manner and thereby contribute to the country’s quest for affordable, clean energy as well as energy security.
  • To promote and spread awareness about the benefits of wind energy and the crucial role it can play in ensuring a sustainable path for the country’s economic and social development.
  • To ensure that the industry develops in a sustainable manner by protecting the interests of all stakeholders.

We are deeply committed to the potential and the opportunities in the area of renewable energy, striving each day to make our planet and our country a cleaner and greener place.
